EU data protection authorities are beginning a probe into whether software agreements between Microsoft and the European Commission and other EU institutions comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, ITProPortal reports. “When relying on third parties to provide services, the EU institutions remain accountable for any data processing carried out on their behalf,” Assistant European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiorowski said. “They also have a duty to ensure that any contractual arrangements respect the new rules and to identify and mitigate any risks.” Microsoft added its own statement, saying it will willingly assist in any investigation.
