The Council of the European Union and EU Parliament signed the Digital Markets Act into law. The DMA intends to “ensure a competitive and fair digital sector” while fostering innovation. The law is directed toward online gatekeepers to safeguard them and promote an environment for “innovative digital businesses to grow” by leveling the playing field between larger and smaller platforms. Companies are considered gatekeepers if they have either an annual turnover of 7.5 billion euros within the EU in the last three years or have a valuation more than 75 billion euros.
