The Council of the European Union announced it voted to approve the establishment of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre in Bucharest, Romania. Mariana Vieira da Silva, Portuguese minister of state for the presidency of the council, said the center "will play a key role in helping secure the digital infrastructure" for the "networks in vital areas such as health, transport, energy, financial markets and banking systems." The center will now be considered by the European Parliament.
