The Electronic Privacy Information Center has thrown its support behind the New York State Senate's efforts to pass Senate Bill 5642 on personal data oversight. EPIC sent a letter to New York state lawmakers prior to Friday's senate hearing, "Protecting Consumer Data and Privacy on Online Platforms," to recommend passage of the privacy bill. "A strong state privacy law would establish an independent state-level [data protection agency] with resources, technical expertise, rulemaking authority and effective enforcement powers," EPIC wrote.
