  • Italy's data protection authority, the Garante, announced fines of 350,000 and 60,000 euros to the Municipality of Rome and a mobility services company, respectively, for data security violations. The Garante found a QR code scheme for vehicle permits did not carry a sufficient level of data protection because the codes and the personal information attached to them were publicly accessible via mobile device applications.
  • The Dutch data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, fined Booking.com 450,000 euros for violations related to a 2018 breach. The AP alleges the reservation service provider did not report a breach involving more than 4,100 customers until 22 days after the incident came to light.
