The Financial Times reports on the benefits and risks companies face when they collect data on their employees. Employers can collect data on their staff’s movement, interactions with colleagues, and their personal fitness. Accenture Chief Leadership and Human Resources Officer Ellyn Shook said employee data can be a “gold mine or a minefield.” Employee data used responsibly can benefit everyone within an organization; however, misused information can lead to violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. “This is an issue that none of us really understands because it is relatively new and we don’t have good guidance and practices in any of our organisations yet,” MIT Sloan School of Management Professor Thomas Kochan said. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
