The European Data Protection Supervisor released a summary of its 2019 Annual Management Plan. With Regulation 2018/1725 in effect, the EDPS has become the main adviser of all institutions in the EU. The agency states the bill is one of the reasons why the 2019 plan is “the most important of the current EDPS term.” “Our plan for 2019 is a recognition of the need for a new culture of data protection, de-bureaucratising wherever possible, arguing against useless procedures but reinforcing meaningful safeguards for the individuals affected by personal data processing,” the EDPS said in a release. The EDPS wants to help data protection officers and EU staff members ensure data protection is “fully embedded” within the administrative and managerial culture of EU institutions and bodies.
