Following the U.S. government’s request to file an amicus brief in the case between privacy activist Max Schrems and Facebook, data protection and trade groups want to offer their contributions to the case, The Irish Times reports. Digital Rights Ireland and the Electronic Frontier Foundation want to file amicus briefs in the case made by Irish Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon. The Business Software Alliance — which represents major tech companies including Apple, Intel and Microsoft — wants to file a brief as well. Judge Brian McGovern has said he will fast-track the High Court case and granted permission to include the amicus applications from the trade and privacy groups. Dixon found last month that Schrems brought “well-founded” objections to data transfers made by Facebook Ireland to its U.S. parent branch. McGovern said the case will resume June 27.
