The United States government has asked the Irish High Court to contribute to an amicus brief in the case between privacy activist Max Schrems and Facebook, Schrems announced in a press release. “The U.S. government likely wants to defend its surveillance laws before the European Courts and highlighted the significance of the case for the United States before the High Court,” the release states. The move will facilitate greater dialogue, Schrems said in an subsequent Ars Technica report. “Now they have every chance to make their point, but we also have every chance to ask questions they have previously not had to respond to," he said.
