According to KrebsOnSecurity, a September data breach exposed the data of approximately 26 million credit and debit cards stolen from hundreds of businesses. KrebsOnSecurity received a link to files containing the data, which was stolen over the past four years and taken from BriansClub, “an underground ‘carding’ store.” Card accounts were stolen by hackers “or ‘resellers’ who make a living breaking into payment card systems online and in the real world,” according to the report. More than 21.6 million of the cards do not expire until after October 2019, “offering cybercriminal buyers ample opportunity to cash out these records.” Meanwhile, two computer hackers have pleaded guilty to an extortion scheme in which sensitive information of 57 million Uber riders and drivers was stolen.
