TechCrunch reports the U.K. Court of Appeals has ruled the deployment of facial recognition by the South Wales Police is unlawful, citing privacy and data protection violations. The court found that law enforcement's use of facial recognition lacked guidance on where the technology could be used and who could be added to a watchlist. Additionally, the police did not perform a proper privacy impact assessment, which violates Article 8 of the U.K. Data Protection Act 2018.
