The Northern District of Illinois federal court approved a $17.6 million settlement proposal from insurance company Kemper after two data breaches in December 2020 and March 2021 potentially compromised the data of 6.1 million people. The settlement includes access to free credit monitoring for 18 months for every affected customer and the ability to file a claim up to $10,000. Data at risk in the breach included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical leave information and workers’ compensation claim information.
