The Court of Justice of the European Union's Advocate General Athanasios Rantos issued a nonbinding opinion in a case regarding personalized advertising based on public statements around sexual orientation. Rantos opined such disclosures make data "manifestly public," but subsequent public consumption cannot lead to nonconsensual data processing for targeted advertising purposes. The case was brought forward by NOYB Honorary Chair Max Schrems.
