In response to user demand for greater privacy, Google Chrome will phase out third-party cookies within two years. That’s according to Google Chrome Engineering Director Justin Schuh, who said users want transparency, choice and control over how their data is used, “and it’s clear the web ecosystem needs to evolve to meet these increasing demands." The company is working to find a way to address “the needs of users, publishers and advertisers” and develop “the tools to mitigate workarounds.” Meanwhile, following the announcement, shares of French advertising technology company Criteo — which works with companies to improve the performance of their online advertising — hit a 52-week low, CNBC reports.
