The Washington Post reports on the degree of opposition U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., carries in negotiations for federal privacy legislation. In addition to recently stated opposition to the proposed American Data Privacy and Protection Act, Cantwell reportedly nixed a prior bipartisan agreement earlier in 2022 on a proposal by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. Meanwhile, Cantwell's own revamped proposal, the Consumer Online Privacy Rights Act, is drawing pushback over its provisions for consumer redress.
