While little enforcement has been seen since the EU General Data Protection Regulation took effect, European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli says it’s only a matter of time, TechCrunch reports. Buttarelli said, “I’m expecting, before the end of the year, concrete results,” adding the law is being ignored by many and fines are likely to follow. Looking forward, he said there are plans to publish a manifesto for a next-generation framework that could include collaboration between privacy overseers and antitrust regulators and he is pushing to accelerate the discussion around data ethics. Editor's Note: Angelique Carson, CIPP/US, talks to Buttarelli about his efforts to move the needle forward on ethics for The Privacy Advisor.
