Canadian Underwriter reports that a bill before the Ontario legislature that would require healthcare providers to report privacy breaches to Ontario’s information and privacy commissioner is gaining traction. “We hope this legislation actually gets through so that we can catch up to the other provinces,” said Jeff Yurek, Progressive Conservative health critic. Bill 119 would repeal and replace the Quality of Care Information Protection Act of 2004 and would make a number of changes to the Personal Health Information Protection Act “to provide for the development and maintenance of the electronic health record,” according to a government statement.
