With privacy gaining more political capital, the Financial Times reports that some big tech companies are taking note and turning their approach to privacy into a competitive advantage in the field. The article states that over the last two weeks, both Apple and IBM have taken steps to ensure user privacy and develop trust in company operations by launching public relations efforts to align themselves with stewardship. Whether it be IBM's newly announced data principles and practices or Apple's approach to "differential privacy," the article notes that steps toward data stewardship are in stark contrast to profit models utilized by other tech giants, such as Google or Facebook, that mine and sell user data.
