MediaPost reports the Internet Association has begun a campaign promoting a federal U.S. privacy law that would preempt current and future state laws. Ads for the campaign are currently circulating around California and Washington via the radio and Twitter. "Americans deserve a unified, federal privacy law, not a patchwork of state laws, because your privacy expectations shouldn't change from one state to another," the organization said in one of its ads. Digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation called the campaign "a disingenuous ploy to undermine real progress on privacy."
