The reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is a "top priority" for U.S. President Joe Biden's administration, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement. The support was shared by the U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines in a joint letter to congressional leadership. According to The Wall Street Journal, renewal of Section 702 "is expected to be a difficult campaign to persuade lawmakers to not curtail spying powers."
