Bermuda’s Privacy Commissioner released guidance on the qualifications and duties of privacy officers under the Personal Information Privacy Act. “In short, the ‘privacy officer’ role is an internal designation of responsibility and authority for compliance with PIPA, and an external announcement to the public (including our office) to indicate who is the point of contact about privacy and personal information,” it stated. The guidance addresses requirements for designating a privacy officer and explanations of the role and duties performed.
