The Associated Press reports 19 U.S. automakers, which account for the majority of the passenger cars and trucks sold in the country, have signed a set of principles to protect drivers’ privacy. In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, industry officials said they want to reassure consumers that data generated from so-called connected cars will not be shared with law enforcement without court orders or sold to insurance companies or marketers without consent. Global Automakers President John Bozzella said, “As modern cars not only share the road but will in the not-too-distant future communicate with one another, vigilance over the privacy of our customers and the security of vehicle systems is an imperative.”
