Australian Information and Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim will retire 24 March, ZDNet reports. Pilgrim has been the privacy commissioner since July 2010. Before ascending to the role, Pilgrim had been the deputy privacy commissioner since 1998. Attorney General Christian Porter praised Pilgrim, while adding his replacement will be chosen in a “merit-based selection process.” “Mr Pilgrim built a strong reputation, both within government and the wider community, with his thoughtful and considered approach to privacy and information regulation,” Porter said. “He has worked tirelessly to help Australia deal with global privacy challenges, particularly through building closer relationships with other privacy regulators domestically and internationally.”
