Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2018, European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip discussed the benefits of the free flow of data, the Financial Express reports. Ansip said data flows allow smaller companies to stay competitive with larger entities; however, those organizations still need to ensure personal data remains protected and understand “forceful” data localization rules could also negatively impact those with lesser resources. Ansip also addressed India’s new data protection law, which will “hopefully pave the way for EU-India adequacy discussions in the future and also facilitate greater data flows between us.”
