CNBC reports Amazon has announced improvements to Rekognition, the company's facial-recognition technology. The software's accuracy and functionality have been updated to boost facial analysis on features such as identifying gender, emotions and age range. "With this release, we have further improved the accuracy of gender identification," Amazon said in a blog post. "In addition, we have improved accuracy for emotion detection (for all 7 emotions: ‘Happy’, ‘Sad’, ‘Angry’, ‘Surprised’, ‘Disgusted’, ‘Calm’ and ‘Confused’) and added a new emotion: ‘Fear’." While Amazon stands by its technology, researchers are still unsure of its accuracy given emotions are portrayed differently by different people. Use of the technology by law enforcement has been the subject of controversy in recent months.
