MindGeek has developed an age-verification mechanism, AgeID, to help adult entertainment websites comply with the impending Digital Economy Act, which will require that such sites verify users are at least 18 years old, Sky News reports. The company will collect information such as a user’s name, address, date of birth and online activities but has denied it plans to implement surveillance practices. Concerns have been raised that AgeID will become the de-facto standard, enabling MindGeek, the largest internet pornography company in the world, to gain even more market dominance.
