Spain’s data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, received the largest number of claims in its existence, according to its 2022 report released 25 April. In 2022, the AEPD received 15,128 claims, which represented a 9% increase from 2021 and a 47% increase from 2020. In response, the AEPD imposed fines in 378 cases. The most frequent issues raised by citizens involved internet services and video surveillance, which combined for 30% of complaints last year. Internet service entities paid the largest amount in fines, totaling nearly 11.5 million euros.
