Tech companies like Salesforce.com considering buying Twitter face a “risky” deal, looking to gain a trove of user data and also the privacy and security responsibility that comes with it, Bloomberg Technology reports. “Salesforce.com would be buying a consumer-facing service with unique challenges − such as monitoring hate speech and fighting state censorship − that a corporate software company rarely handles,” the report states. “Despite that, Twitter may be attractive because it has data on the tweets, followers and other connections of influential professionals and corporate marketing departments.” Stifel analysts cautioned Salesforce against the move in an open letter entitled, “You Don’t Need to Buy the Cow.” If not Salesforce, “several companies have had informal talks” about purchasing the social media site, the report adds.
