International digital rights group Access Now is asking Verizon to look into the allegations against Yahoo claiming the tech company scanned emails for law enforcement agencies, Reuters reports. Access Now wants Verizon to ensure Yahoo boosts its efforts to protect user data, while also keeping security staff informed on policy decisions, and sticking to surveillance reform efforts. "We have an ongoing and constructive engagement with Access Now and will review their recommendations and consider them carefully," Verizon said in an emailed statement. Meanwhile, in an op-ed for The Hill, Jacob Olcott explains why the massive Yahoo data breach could give the Securities and Exchange Commission a more active role in cybersecurity proceedings.
