The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of New Zealand published a statement asking businesses to avoid paper-based contact tracing registers following privacy concerns. Businesses must display a QR code and an alternative method for collecting personal information, and some are using "paper registers that leave peoples’ contact details visible." The office offered other privacy-protective ways of collecting contact tracing data, such as a ballot box or an electronic system.
