Presidential Campaign, Candidate to Speak at Privacy Academy
With just three months to go before the 2008 general election, the IAPP is pleased to bring some political passion to the Privacy Academy in Orlando next month. Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr and McCain advisor Orson Swindle will present their campaigns' privacy platforms at the event.

Orson Swindle
, senior policy advisor and chair, Security Initiatives, Centre for Information Policy Leadership at Hunton & Williams, and former FTC Commis-sioner, will present a keynote address at the opening plenary session of the Academy on Tuesday, September 23.
Swindle, who served as a POW with McCain, advises the McCain campaign and is a key part of the "McCain Truth Squad." Swindle recently served as a member of the board of directors of RSA Security, Inc. (2005-2006). He also is a member of the board of directors of Citizens Against Government Waste.

Swindle is a past recipient of the IAPP Privacy Leadership Award.

Bob Barr, dubbed "Mr. Privacy" by New York Times columnist William Safire, is the 2008 Libertarian nominee for president. Barr's campaign focuses heavily on supporting electronic privacy and restricting government surveillance activities.

Previously, Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, serving as a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, as vice-chairman of the Government Reform Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Financial Services. He now practices law with the Law Offices of Edwin Marger, and runs a consulting firm, Liberty Strategies LLC. Barr also serves as a board member for Privacy International, an international watchdog group headquartered in London.
