Understanding the CCPA Inside and Out

The day-long CCPA Comprehensive helped privacy professionals plan their responses to the California Consumer Privacy Act by diving deep into the law’s details. Panels of highly experienced privacy lawyers and government regulators discussed the CCPA’s scope, definitions of key terms, its similarities to the EU’s GDPR, and potential gray areas in the law. One session was dedicated to answering audience questions, another to case studies, and there were opportunities in between to network with peers.

Session Highlights

CCPA Scope and Important Definitions

The audience heard a survey of the CCPA’s key concepts and fundamentals from Lothar Determann, partner at Baker McKenzie and author of the IAPP’s newly updated “California Privacy Law” textbook.

Q&A: Stump the Panelists

A three-person panel took questions from the audience. Nothing was too tricky or complicated for the privacy experts!

CCPA on the Ground: Exploring Case Studies in Ad Tech, Smart Cars, Health, Financial

How will the CCPA affect specific industry sectors? What bearing does the GDPR have on CCPA compliance, and how will specific technologies like smart cars and artificial intelligence adapt to the new regulatory environment? This session explored those questions and more.
