About the IAPP

Emmy Hackett is General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Data Protection Officer for SHL, based in greater London. SHL is global people insights company providing scientifically rigorous insight tools and assessments across the employee journey from recruitment through development and promotion.

Hackett initially joined SHL in 2012 as Head of Legal, working to build an effective international commercial legal team as part of CEB, Inc., a US publicly traded consulting company. When SHL re-established itself as an independent, private equity funded company in 2018, Hackett became a member of the executive team with leadership of the legal, compliance, and data protection functions. More recently, she also became the chair for SHL’s diversity and inclusion efforts. She has obtained her CIPP/EU and CIPM data protection certifications. She legally qualified in New York, Texas and Massachusetts in the US and in England and Wales.

Prior to joining SHL, Hackett was the Deputy General Counsel (International) at V.C.E., a joint venture between Cisco and EMC bringing converged computing infrastructure to the market.  She has also worked in other public and private companies in software, outsourcing, web-based services, and telecommunications such as Amdocs Inc., Cramer Inc. and Vignette Corporation.

After graduating with honours from Cornell Law School, Hackett started her legal career at a leading US law firm engaged in mergers and acquisitions, copyright, trademarks and other intellectual property matters. Opportunity took her in-house working for a technology client. Subsequently an in-house role moved her to the UK 14 years ago, which she now calls home. Her overriding commitment to her legal team and company is to recognise the unique contribution of each individual with a common purpose of the benefiting both the company and our clients.
