How to Deal with Facial Recognition and Make it Compliant?

This web conference was a part of the IAPP European Data Protection Intensive Online 2021.

Original broadcast date: 29 June 2021

Facial recognition is at the forefront of media. This is because governments are increasingly using it for surveillance and enforcement purposes, and because of Clearview’s leaked customer list. It showed us thousands of businesses are using its facial recognition database for commercial purposes and is key to considering how this technology can be developed and used in a compliant manner. Other relevant rules include monitoring behaviors and automated decision-making. Our panel addresses key questions that must be resolved, such as: how to ensure transparency, and is consent a viable option? This session will provide you with the views of experts from the public sector, the industry and the legal world.

Tanguy Van Overstraeten, Partner, Global Head of Data Protection, Head of TMT & IP, Linklaters
