The New York Department of Financial Services issued a set of cybersecurity requirements for individuals and organizations in the financial services and insurance industries that came into effect March 1, 2017. The law's compliance obligations will come into force in a staggered fashion that began in August of 2017 and will continue through March 1, 2019. For applicable entities, these obligations include the creation of a cybersecurity program, policy and incident response plan, the establishment of a CISO that interacts with and advises the BoD, and multiple data security measures and reporting requirements.
