Speaking about the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield at the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland Independence Day lunch, U.S. Ambassador to the EU Anthony Gardner said, "We're confident that the revised framework can withstand future judicial scrutiny because it meets the court's standard of essential equivalents." The updated agreement was “a significant achievement for privacy both for individuals and businesses,” he continued. “It includes new privacy protections to be implemented by companies, as well as new U.S. government commitments and resources to administer Privacy Shield and oversee compliance.”
