Verizon’s ninth annual Data Breach Report found that phishing emails were the primary catalyst for data loss, with the amount of emails opened growing from 23 to 30 percent in the last year, CSO Online reports. Embracing two-factor authentication is one potential for companies looking to avoid falling prey to phishing attacks, said Verizon’s Bryan Sartin. "It would mitigate an entire swathe of these breaches." Meanwhile, BT Tower hosted Cyber Security Challenge U.K.’s second challenge, Infosecurity Magazine reports. Under the supervision of BT’s security team and other cybersecurity assessors, 24 finalists worked to investigate a mock breach of a financial institution, with “top performers” qualifying for November’s Cyber Security Challenge U.K. Masterclass.
