Samsung has announced its acquisition of Internet of Things and big data analytics company Joyent, The Christian Science Monitor reports. The move is just a first step into Samsung’s data-driven future, company representatives say. "Big data is going to be a huge initiative for Samsung," said Injong Rhee, chief technology officer of Samsung’s mobile division. "Samsung devices will be increasingly intelligent, and big data is really a key component of intelligence and personalization." Not everyone is convinced the move is wholly positive. The American Civil Liberties Union’s Jay Stanley urged corporate caution when collecting large swaths of data. “It behooves them to tread very carefully," he said.
