As health records become almost universally digital, patients are reaping the benefits of online access, but the need for a new username and password for each of many health providers can be a burden. Recognizing this, reports Healthcare IT News, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology has teamed with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT to offer a $1 million prize for a solution to the problem. The single credential must enhance privacy and security, interoperate with many or all provider platforms, and be cost-effective. Applications can be submitted until June 1, via Grants.gov.
