India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced citizens are now able to access official documents using WhatsApp, Social Media Today reports. WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, integrated the platform in India with digital documentation initiative Digilocker. There are more than 487 million WhatsApp users in India, which makes it the most popular messaging platform in the country. By launching the official document service, Meta has taken another step toward becoming a critical utility in India and could offer future initiatives for bill paying, money exchange and shopping.
