ARC Mercantile has notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) that it experienced a breach last month, according to an OAIC press release. “The OAIC has been in contact with ARC Mercantile and Optus about this incident. We are pleased to see that Optus has notified affected individuals about this incident. Notification can be an important mitigation strategy that has the potential to benefit both the organization and the individuals affected by a data breach. The OAIC strongly encourages notification in appropriate circumstances as part of good privacy practice,” the release states. The OAIC is now determining whether further action is required. Meanwhile, Japan Today reports the information of 680,000 voters from the 2011 election in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, Japan were leaked after an alleged employee gaffe.
