David Medine, chairman of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, announced, in what The Hill calls a surprise, his resignation from the five member panel that perhaps most famously declared NSA bulk collection of phone records illegal. His term ran into 2018. “Under David’s leadership,” U.S. President Barack Obama commented, “the PCLOB’s thoughtful analysis and considered input has consistently informed my decision-making.” For his part, Medine will be leaving to work on data privacy and consumer protection issues in the developing world.
