Following a full-day workshop last June co-hosted with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Trade Commission has released a new paper summarizing themes presented by panelists, including key takeaways and developments. The paper details the types of data collected by autonomous and connected cars, the privacy concerns held by consumers, and best practices for addressing the data security challenges associated with connected cars. The paper also warns that “addressing consumer privacy concerns is critical to consumer acceptance and adoption of the emerging technologies behind connected cars and that different approaches may be needed depending on how the data is used.”
