The three major institutions charged with creating the next generation of EU data protection law started discussions Wednesday in the first of a series of trilogue meetings to finalize the proposed General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Register reports several EU countries are concerned about the GDPR, including Cyprus, Italy, Belgium and Poland. Austria said it will not support a law that lowers data protection from existing standards. Leaders from the European Commission and European Parliament as well as negotiators from member states shared their thoughts during a press conference this morning, and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament shared its conditions for the EU data protection reform.
