The House of Representatives will vote on the Email Privacy Act today, where it is expected to pass by a wide margin, The Hill reports. With 315 House members backing the bill, the Email Privacy Act will take the next step to updating the now-outdated Electronic Communications Privacy Act by requiring law enforcement to obtain a warrant prior to receiving customer emails, even ones older than 180 days. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said he is waiting for the House vote before determining what to do next with the bill, while nearly 70 major organizations sent a letter to lawmakers requesting an “immediate passage of the bill without any amendments.”
