European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski offered an opinion on data protection considerations associated with the United Nations’ proposed Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes. The opinion offers four recommendations for further securing individuals’ rights to data protection and privacy while also reaffirming the need for equivalent protection measures for data transfers to non-EU countries. "Strong safeguards must be put in place to ensure that the protection of individuals’ personal data in a non-EU country is not undermined," Wiewiórowski said.
