While the world has discussed, debated and come to conclusions on the right to be forgotten, Turkey has also taken some firm steps in the way of establishing the right to be forgotten. Begüm Yavuzdoğan Okumuş and Bensu Aydin of Gün+Partners write for Privacy Tracker that a decision from the Constitutional Court of Turkey offers citizens a right to be forgotten "in cases where the personal data is 'inadequate, irrelevant or no longer relevant, or excessive in relation to intended purposes and in the light of the time that has elapsed.’" The court approached the case using fundamental human rights under the Turkish Constitution and "evaluated the fine balance between the right of freedom of expression and media and the right to be forgotten.” The ruling resulted in eight issues to be examined when determining, on a case-by-case basis, whether content should be removed based on the right to be forgotten.
