In an interview with Data-Smart City Solutions, Chicago Chief Information Officer Brenna Berman discusses the evolution of the Internet of Things and the city’s sensor project, the Array of Things. She emphasized the need for security and privacy protections in these spheres, and advocated for developer-user involvement. “Every city has to tackle privacy more directly now,” Berman said. “The best way to do that is through resident engagement.” One size does not fit all, she added. “Privacy policies also need to vary city to city, depending on the culture of the city; a privacy policy that works for us in Chicago is going to be different than one that works in Seattle or in New York City.”
