Auto companies, increasingly collecting data about drivers through connected cars, are limiting the data they share via new systems that link smartphones to cars with technology partners Apple and Google, Reuters reports. “We need to control access to that data,” said Don Butler, Ford’s executive director of connected vehicle and services, adding, “We need to protect our ability to create value” based on digital services built on vehicle data. General Motors told investors earlier this year it expects to see an additional $350 million in revenue over the next three years from the high-speed data connections it’s building into its cars.
