About the IAPP

Marcos Vieyra is the Chief Information Security Officer for the State of South Carolina. With over 10 years of full-time information security experience, he leads the newly created Division of Information Security (DIS) under the South Carolina Department of Administration. The DIS was created by the South Carolina General Assembly in July, 2013, and has been charged with the establishment of information security policy, standards, procedures and guidelines for over 70 state agencies, including the authority to oversee incident response at these agencies.  

Marcos began his IT career in 1995, where he served as his squadron’s system administrator in the United States Air Force, and learned the importance of operations security. Marcos’ full-time information security career started at the University of South Carolina, where he also eventually earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. Marcos has earned and maintains current the following information security and privacy certifications: GSLC, GLEG, GSNA, GCCC, CISSP, CIPP/IT, CIPP/US, and CIPM.
